This is fist-thumping, pint-drinking, side-tickling, heart-wrenching poetry. This is the spoken word revolution! Over the last three years, the award-winning Loud Poets have cemented their place as one of the top spoken word show at the Fringe. Their unique blend of poetry, live music and film has wowed audiences at Fringe Festivals including Edinburgh, Brighton and Prague and they return this year with a brand-new show filled with comedy, tragedy, politics and poignancy.
Winners of the Prague Fringe New Territories Award 2016, runner-up for Best Regular Spoken Word Night at the 2016 Saboteur Awards, and recommended by The Guardian: Loud Poets have been taking the UK spoken word scene by storm ever since their start in 2014.
This summer Loud Poets bring a brand-new show to the Edinburgh Fringe for their fourth consecutive year, and it’s a big one. In today’s climate of runaway commercialism and a constant barrage of advertising, Loud Poets ask: what’s the role of poetry? And what exactly are poets selling you? Drawing on their diverse backgrounds in theatre, dance, music and more, the poets perform a variety of original solo and multi-voice pieces showcasing the best spoken word has to offer. The poets are accompanied by live music from Scottish band Ekobirds, plus visuals and film titles from cinematographer Perry Jonsson.
In addition to its core cast of Scotland-based slam-winning performers Kevin Mclean, Katie Ailes, Catherine Wilson and Doug Garry, the show also features a different guest every night, chosen from the best of the UK and international spoken word scenes. Expect the likes of 2014 UK National Slam Champion Leyla Josephine, 2012 World Slam Champion Harry Baker, and online viral sensation Mark Grist.
This is poetry as you’ve never seen it before. This is poetry for the masses. This is Loud Poets!
