Our (Hector's House Edinburgh) previous festival closers with our Glaswegian friends, blk 29, have been two of our favourite parties in our 5+ year history. Both involved extended sets from one of the world’s finest party-starters, Jackmaster, and both were unique in their own way: 2015 for the infamous power cut (due to the pop-up nature of the space at the time); and last year the impromptu B2B with Elliot Adamson, the first time the pair had played together.
For our 2017 edition we’re very proud to present an Edinburgh debut from a true pioneer, a leading light of South Africa, and one of the most exciting DJs in the world. Step forward, national icon, Nkosinathi Maphumulo aka Black Coffee!!!
Black Coffee’s biography is rather extensive due to the far-reaching nature and length of his career so we’re not going to be able to do it justice condensing it to a few lines. We’d therefore strongly advise you to have a read of his full bio via his RA page >> residentadvisor.net/dj/blackcoffee
On room 1 support duties are two of the finest and most respected DJs in the world, the mighty Harri & Domenic of Subculture fame (this is their only Edinburgh date during the festival). Scottish Don Gareth Sommerville is our Edinburgh representation and we couldn't be happier to have Gareth involved in this year's party. We're also going to run a DJ competition to win the opportunity to play the opening slot (info to follow in due course).
In room 2 we've invited along six key nights and collectives who we feel are contributing to Edinburgh's vibrant and bubbling electronic music scene. Residents from each of the nights/collectives will present their respective sound/vibe, so this'll be a really good chance to get a little taste of a party that you've maybe not attended yet. We're really excited for this room! Whilst the bar will be soundtracked by our residents, friends, and extended family. If you've attended a Hectors or two over the past 5+ years, you'll see many a familiar face in this room. Check out the full line-up below.
Due to the success of the past two years at the 600 capacity basement on Frederick Street, we’re buzzing that Bourbon are, once again, hosting our festival closer. The venue has one of the best sound and lighting systems in the capital and we can’t wait to see the inevitable scenes when Black Coffee takes to the booth! Maphumulo is known for producing and playing house music that is 'unique and beautiful', dripping with soul, and we’re super-excited to hear his Afropolitan house sound in person. Similar to 2015 and 2016 our festival closing party is on the final Sunday of the month (27th August), and in line with previous years, tickets are priced from just £5 (link below)
We couldn’t be any more excited to welcome to Edinburgh one of the most vibrant contributors to the global music scene. Black Coffee has garnered a worldwide following and is currently one of the most in-demand DJs on the planet…..think ADE, DC10, Sonar, Watergate, RBMA tours (he’s a former academy student), Panorama Bar, and his current weekly Saturday night residency at Hï Ibiza.
We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a stunning party to close out this year’s festival.
