Adam Husler is coming to Edinburgh, exclusively to Tribe Yoga Quartermile.
Adam (500hr RYT) delivers anatomically focused, non dogmatic, alignment based, vinyasa yoga teaching across London, internationally and on multiple online channels. LEGS TODAY, GONE TOMORROW Saturday 13 Jan 6pm
Yogis hate this and it may hurt .....we’re going to reign it in and move our legs with control and strength. As modern yogis we often love to throw our legs around, take them as high as possible and generally follow the route of least resistance in our practice. This is great for making pretty shapes, but not necessarily the best thing for your body, especially in the long term.

In this workshop, our attention will be drawn to the concept of mobility: a combination of flexibility and strength, in a context where strength means control. Through a controlled vinyasa practice, we’ll be exploring the anatomical subtleties of more traditional asana and brining in dynamic movements to find depth and strength around our legs and hips. You might be great a using your arms or a teacher to get your legs into ‘deep poses’, but how are you at moving your legs in to deep positions, solely with the muscles designed to move your legs? In this workshop you’ll find an answer to that and more. Then, post class, you’ll be glad Tribe has no stairs.

To close our practice, we’ll be spending some time working deep in some static poses and then move through a gentle restorative practice, to prepare you for entry back in to the outside world.

Those ‘cool’ looking inversions and arm balances that you spot people popping out in the studio and social media they don’t just magically happen one day. Flailing and throwing yourself around won’t necessarily get the result you want, unless you want 1 second video of you upside down.

Each arm balance, inversion, and transition can be gradually worked towards via; lots of small simple drills done again and again, general conditioning of the whole body and the development of lean muscle strength, not just flexibility, in yoga.

Through this strong vinyasa based workshop we’ll be learning which muscles need to wake up and engage to get in to certain asanas, working on drills to help make them stronger, learning how we can build strength in our regular asana practice and then giving some of the 'big' postures a go.

TWIST'n'LENGTHEN Sunday 14 January 6pm
Back Strengthening and Spine Mobilising

When we backbend, we love to collapse in the lower back and squash the neck..because it makes us look like we’re going further. In twists, we love to spin the neck and throw the arm...because it makes us look like we’re going further. In this workshop we’re going to reign things in and begin to find evenness in the backbends, congruence in out twists, and strength in the muscles that are there to move us in these directions. Instead of starting with contortion skills, we’ll start from the ground up, breaking down vinyasa and salutation technique, and you’l already begin using muscles you might not have felt before. The muscles will keep working as we continue to undulate through individual vertebrae, unlock our iPhone hunched upper back and neck and begin to move more dynamically thorough the spine in a strong vinyasa context. Before we neutralise our spine in a well deserved vinyasa, we’ll have a look at some deeper static poses along with exploring some deeper backbends like inverted staff pose, king pigeon and full dancers.
