This is an introductory course that will give you an insight into how a garment is made from start to finish. You will be guided on how to draft a basic block pattern and a pattern to match the garment design by following pattern drafting instructions before moving onto the toile and making of the final garment stage. Throughout the process, you will be guided through each stage and shown various techniques.

The course is designed so that it is suitable even for beginners who may not be confident with sewing or have any knowledge about pattern cutting. It is also suitable for intermediate level students who may already have some knowledge but want to exercise and/or improve the skills they already have.

At the end of this course, you will;

Learn how to draft a basic pattern block
Have an understanding on how to manipulate the basic pattern block according to the garment design you want
Understand the importance of the toile stage
Be able to construct/assemble a garment
Be able to recognise some sewing techniques and garment finishes
Dates: 25th January to 15th March 2018

Duration: 8 weeks

Time: Thursday evening 6pm – 9pm

Class size: 8 max

Price: £200

Materials: Although some materials are included students should bring with them their own stationary such as:

Pencil
Rubber
Sharpener
Paper scissors
Calculator/or use the calculator on their phone (used for pattern cutting)
Sellotape/masking tape
Additonally if they could or already have it:

Fabric scissors
Measuring tape
They should also purchase their own fabric(s) and trimmings, thread, zips buttons etc for their own projects which will be discussed with the tutor

Recommended pattern cutting book students should consider for the course: Winifred Aldrich’s Metric Pattern Cutting for Womenswear and/or Menswear
