Over the last decade, C Joynes has ploughed a singular furrow through solo guitar, with a body of work incorporating English folk-tunes alongside North & West African music, and lifting proto-minimalist and improvised techniques from the European classical tradition. Shifting to solo electric guitar on his most recent releases, the ‘33 Chatsworth Rd’ EP on alt.vinyl (2015) and ‘Split Electric’ LP on Thread Recordings (2016), he’s currently exploiting the instrument’s potential for placing overdriven garage blues throw- downs alongside the brittle ringing tones of electric folk.

Barrett’s Dottled Beauty
BDB is what you get when you cross a Kitchen Cynic with a Pefkin. Nursing an obsession equally with Syd Barrett and lepidoptera, Alan Davidson and Gayle Brogan formed this duo in 2016, playing semi-improvised experimental folk, informed by their shared interest in nature, folk song and noise. «siren-esque psalms quietly stare, seduce and enchant, beguilement doesn’t begin to touch it, ghostly drone mosaics, which arrive trimmed in classicist vintage whose lineage ripples to a dawning of time whilst sonically balanced on a finite point located somewhere between the primordial psych folk utterance’s of Alphane Moon, Ghost, Our Glassie Azoth and the bewitching trips of George Harrison’s Blue Jay Way”. Their second album released in a limited edition of 80 in individually collaged sleeves is long sold out.
Leith’s very own shamanic soothsayer will be performing his very own brand of homebrewed yarns with either a loop pedal, t’wa stringed guitar or acapella. Building bridges between the traditional and outer realms of the music fringe, Drew Wright has been entertaining audiences with natural ease for some time now. Always different but strangely familiar, Drew’s performances are an Edinburgh institution.
