'To begin with, I turn back time'
The EUTC is proud to present ‘The Glass Menagerie’, the self titled memory play that brought Tennessee Williams (‘A Streetcar Named Desire, ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’) to fame and winner of the 1945 Critics Circle Award.
Set in St. Louis near the end of The Great Depression, the play follows Tom as he recalls his complex relationships with his volatile mother Amanda and fragile sister Laura in the aftermath of his father’s abandonment. As they try to escape their financial situation, relations become increasingly tense and each person seeks escape through their memories and fantasies.
Humorous, touching and haunting, ‘The Glass Menagerie’ explores the effects of family trauma, the intricacies of memory and the damage of remaining attached to the past.
