Turn a dated, damaged, or unloved rigid framed lampshade into something beautiful in this brand new workshop.
Over the 4 hours, you will learn how to expertly strip your old lampshade frame, clean it up to prepare it for your new cover, and remake it with a PVC and fabric cover of your own choice. You will learn valuable lampshade making techniques as well as gain skills which you can use to make your own lampshades again and again at home!
You can bring along your own material and tailor your new lampshade to a specific room in your home, or be adventurous and choose your material on the day from our wide range of stock at the Remakery.
Please note, you must bring along your own shade (these can be bought very cheaply at many charity shops throughout Edinburgh), and this must be a rigid sided shade (ie with the fabric bonded to the PVC cover) and not a soft sided shade (ie where the fabric is sewn onto a metal frame). Suitable shade types are drum, cone or oval shaped.
If you are bringing your own fabric, please make sure you have a piece wide enough to wrap around your shade plus 2cm overlap (for round, oval or cone shades, you can calculate this by measuring the diameter of the shade x 3.15 +2), and as tall as the shade plus 10cm for positioning and tucking in – for example, if you want to make a 25cm diameter 20cm high shade, you will need a piece of fabric which is 81cm X 30cm.
All tools are provided as well as teas and coffees to fuel your creativity.
