Poets! Come to our writer in residence Claire Askew’s poetry masterclass and watch your poems transform on the page.
Do you write poetry? Do you want to master what is arguably the trickiest of poetic forms? Or maybe you've never written a sestina before and you'd just like to try it?
Come along to our masterclass and work with Bloodaxe published poet and University of Edinburgh Writer in Residence Claire Askew, to go from zero to sestina in two hours. Read some of the greatest examples of the form, then learn to build your sestina step by step using an alchemy of words and strange mathematics (just kidding, it's quite straightforward really!).
Claire Askew's debut poetry collection, This changes things, was published by Bloodaxe in 2016. The collection was shortlisted for an Edwin Morgan Poetry Award, a Saltire First Book Award, the 2017 Seamus Heaney Centre Poetry Prize and the 2017 Michael Murphy Memorial Award. Claire's work has been four times selected to appear in the Scottish Poetry Library's annual Best Scottish Poems anthology. She currently works as the Writer in Residence at the University of Edinburgh, as well as at Golden Hare Books! Follow Claire's antics on Twitter @onenightstanzas
