You are warmly invited to the next Good Food Nation Campaigners meeting, these are monthly(ish) meetings for anyone who wants to get more active in changing the food system! With new legislation for the food system on the horizon, these meetings include leaning more about food policy and campaigning in Scotland, skill sharing, and getting stuck in to this exciting campaign.
Everyone eats food, and beyond that it touches on lives in many ways – from farmers struggling to make a living, to families in food poverty, to people living with diet-related illnesses, to café workers earning minimum wage. And of course, it’s not just people – farming is linked to the decline of our ecosystems, which means fewer bees, bi...rds and butterflies. Farm animals often have a tough time in the current system, where food is treated as a commodity.
We know this system can’t go on. However, we also know that people across Scotland are passionate about food justice – for different reasons – and want to be part of shaping solutions. The Good Food Nation Bill is a unique opportunity to think about food differently, and ask what is our food system for? So far, it has been about commodities and exports, what if it was designed to ensure everyone could eat well without messing up the planet?
There is potential to get some big wins with this legislation, but we are going to need a powerful campaign to deliver the transformation we need. All very welcome!
