Join us in launching Marbles #3 at our series of free film screenings and panel discussions.
We're exploring mental health in film with three separate flicks looking at three different aspects of mental illness and mental health, and how both are portrayed on the big screen.
Wed 16 May: Girl, Interrupted (1990)
Girl, Interrupted is a psychological drama based on author Susanna Kaysen's memoirs. Starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, it's the story of an 18 year old's stay in a psychiatric hospital and her diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.
Thu 17 May: The Skeleton Twins (2014)
The Skeleton Twins follows twins Milo and Maggie (played by Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig), both of whom are dealing with suicidal ideation. The two are reunited after ten years apart, and the film explores family, love and sexuality.
Fri 18 May: Moonlight (2016)
Moonlight is a the first film with an all-black cast and the first LGBT+ film to win the Oscar for Best Picture. It presents three stages in the main character's life (played by Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders and Alex Hibbert): youth, adolescence and early adult life, exploring themes of sexuality, identity and physical / emotional abuse.
