Edinburgh Council is to develop proposals for a major ‘Transformation’ of the city centre within the timescale of the current Council – to improve the public realm, reduce motor traffic and improve conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. For the background, see our 30 November 2017 blog at spokes.org.uk.
Daisy Narayanan, currently Deputy Director of Sustrans Scotland, has been seconded to lead the project and will speak at our meeting.
Meanwhile Glasgow City Council has a similar project, its Connectivity Commission, led by Prof David Begg. Back in the 1990s David Begg was Edinburgh City’s Transport Convener and bravely pushed through Edinburgh’s bus Greenways (now degraded) and cycle facilities including Princes Street cycle lanes (now scrapped). So we are excited that he will speak about Glasgow’s plans.
Finally, there will be our usual one-hour audience QA and panel discussion featuring the two above speakers and doubtless one or two other exciting panel members.
